Famous Quotes

A lot of life is dealing with your curse, dealing with the cards you were given that aren't so nice. Does it make you into a monster, or can you temper it in some way, or accept it and go in some other direction?

Here are some success tips I have accrued over a couple years trying to find work as a Production Assistant, and will help you maximize your efforts!

don't end up like the usual suspects.

Hollywood Success tip 1: Make the most of your time.

This is a tough industry no doubt.  You have to treat every day like it’s the last chance your going to get to impress the right people.

When my first job ended and I stopped working for that little bit of time, I was pretty down on myself.  And this kind of behavior is something that will only stunt your personal growth.  It was through volunteering and eventually getting that next job that brought me back.  And I didn’t accomplish this by sitting on my couch feeling sorry for myself.

Honestly ask yourself, could I be doing more, could I go about this smarter?  Well, by reading this book you are going about this more intelligently.  Just make sure when you feel frustrated and unloved that you remember this.  If you are not where you want to be, or progressing how you want to be, there is something you don’t know.  Get up, get out, and find it!

Hollywood Success tip 2: Volunteering is good!

Like I have said before, I can’t say enough good things about volunteering.  Eventually you’re going to be on a big set, and your going to want to make the best impression you can.  Do you think the rock star Production Assistants got their skills from eating spinach?  Definitely not!

Everybody starts somewhere, and in the respect of making the most out of your time it would make sense to work through all the trial and error of being a Production Assistant on a student film.  I have said it before and I am sure you will hear it again, experience is one of the strongest assets you can have working for you on a film set.  This experience won’t cost you anything but sweat.

Hollywood Success tip 3: Don’t let yourself get taken advantage of.

It is unfortunate, but no less a topic of discussion then any other cutthroat industry.  I will just offer a few words of advice.  IF…

    * It is illegal.
    * It makes you feel uncomfortable (in regards to morality or personal beliefs)
    * It is potentially unhealthy, or dangerous.

…Then you shouldn’t do it!

There are many opportunities for you, all over the place.  If somebody is taking advantage, or using you for their personal gain, it is time to start looking for a new job.  Don’t ever feel trapped!

Hollywood Success tip 4: Movie people have movie friends.

If you know one person in the film industry, there is no doubt that their own network intertwines deeply into it.  Part of attaining success in film has greatly to do with networking, and meeting other likeminded individuals.

Use this to your advantage if you know someone in the biz, you may be just a couple phone calls away from working on the set!

Of course if you do not have connections, that is what this book is for so keep reading to learn how the rest of us can network ourselves to success.

Hollywood Success tip 5: There is no shortage of opportunities.

Believe it, because it is so true.  If you’re the right person for the job you will find that you can work break free until retirement.

The film industry is ever expanding, growing larger by the minute.  The vastly increasing scope means that there will always be room for you.  Finding the opportunities can be difficult, but believe me they exist.  Let’s find your path!
